• To reduce waste during production though economic recycling, reuse and good purchasing practice.
• Encourage staff to source relevant recycling schemes for their individual activities.
• Favour suppliers that use recyclable material that are suitable for disposable by recycling only.
• Buy in bulk to reduce packaging.

• No land fill as it leads to pollution and is a waste of our natural resources

Purchasing

Our delivery boxes are made from recyclable material.

Echo posy boxes create less waste in production, less storage space, (reduced raw edging) more finished appearance.

Bloomin Gorgeous Flowers are aware or the growing concerns and changes that are taking place in the environment and as a consumer we are aware of the impact that we have on the environment. Has a result of this a move as been initiated to join the FFP global programme unlike with Fair Trade Flowers were only growers in developing countries can join. We strongly believe that any action we take will contribute to benefit people and the environment though changes in purchasing and recycling.

Become one of the few florists in the UK to purchase FFP flowers and plants. FFP products are grown in a sustainable nursery and through a traceable supply chain meaning that flowers and plants are checked from the early stages from the distributors to the retailers.

All flowers and plants are labelled with a number so that the products can be checked.

Most flowers and plants are purchased from Holland by Florist Worldwide, which means that flowers sourced and grown in Holland meet the highest ethical standards as they are covered by FFP.

Florists in France and Germany were the first to sell FFP products, this is now slowly moving to the UK and Bloomin Gorgeous Flowers hope to soon become a FFP online florist.

Recycling

Under Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, Bloomin Gorgeous Flowers ensure to dispose of waste via a licensed courier (Bexley Council). Waste produced is correctly stored in containers and waste disposal bins transported and disposed off.

• Waste on the premises is safely contained in appropriate receptacles.
• Spillages are cleared up and steps are taken to ensure waste is not blown away.
• Waste produced is transported by a registered carrier (Bexley Council) licensed to handle the quantity and type of waste involved.

Types of waste removed are as follows

• Garden Waste: Flowers, petals, leaves, stems and thorns.
• Plastic Waste: All plastic bottles, food and drink cans, aerosol cans, foil wrap, trays.
• Glass: Glass bottles and food jars.
• Paper: Newspapers, magazines, junk mail, directories, brochures, leaflets, cardboard boxes, microwave meal boxes, envelopes and shredded paper.
• Metal: Metal lids and cans.
• Miscellaneous: Ink cartridges, toners and mobile phones.

Waste produced in the office i.e. ink cartridges, toners, mobile phones are collected and recycled by RNIB (Royal National Institute for the Blind), every cartridge and mobile phone are recycled to help rebuild the lives of 2 million people affected by loss of sight.
